I’m going to have to play around with this prototype for a bit but at first glance I think it’s a great idea. As I said before, Newspapers can help their cause by making online readers pay, but they can transform the industry by making their content appealing enough for online readers to pay happily. NYTimes.com has shown that it is willing to test new ideas (see Times Reader, TimesPeople) and push the boundaries of what it means to deliver news online. Making the ingestion of news more social and more pallatable are two ways that Newspapers can improve their positions online, and NYTimes.com seems to understand that better than others.
